Volunteer Work in Brighton
Make your free time rewarding...
Have you got a few hours to spare each week and do you want to do something meaningful with your spare time? Do you wish to build up confidence, learn new skills, or perhaps spend time with positive minded people? If so, why not try volunteering work at Bodhisattva Centre?
Bodhisattva Kadampa Meditation Centre is a special place of tranquility, rest, reflection and friendship. It is home to an international Kadampa Buddhist community of 25 lay and ordained residents who share a similar wish to make their lives meaningful by finding lasting peace and happiness from within and helping others to do the same. It is located within two acres of quiet leafy grounds and is a haven of peace in the city of Brighton. The Centre brings benefit to the local community in many ways including a Peace Garden (open to the public from 9am to dusk most days of the year), a World Peace Café, school visits, and meditation classes & courses open to everyone.
At Bodhisattva Kadampa Meditation Centre we offer many exciting volunteer projects that are an ideal opportunity for you to spend time with our thriving Buddhist community as well as enjoying the peaceful environment and positive atmosphere of our Centre.
A recent volunteer said - “I’m having a great time volunteering for Bodhisattva Centre. The people are very friendly and welcoming and the work is really enjoyable. Even though it’s a Buddhist Centre you don’t have to be a Buddhist to join the volunteer programme. I’ve found my own experience of peace and happiness increase through spending time with other like-minded volunteers & it has also given me the confidence to try other things in life. The gardens are amazing and I love the serenity of the meditation rooms. I’d definitely recommend the volunteer work for anyone who has some spare time on their hands. “
The voluntary work
There are many ways you can help (even just for a few hours!). The work is varied and could include cooking, gardening, office work, decorating, or working in our cafe etc. We also have various building projects on the go at any one time that you could get involved in. We are always interested to hear about any specific skills you may be able to offer. Although the volunteer work is not always strenuous you will need to be reasonably fit and active for most of our projects.
If you would like to stay at Bodhisattva Centre during your visit (for up to a week) we offer a working holiday programme where we will provide seven days free dormitory accommodation and three vegetarian meals a day in exchange for 35 hours of volunteer work (usually spread over five days). You will need to apply for this on our working holidays webpage.
Please note: Since Bodhisattva Centre is a Buddhist Centre, volunteers are asked not to drink alcohol or smoke on the premises
